HOW ARE YOU DOING, RUDOLF MING?

Rudolf is a 13 year-old boy who is obsessed with filmmaking. As a matter of fact, it is the only thing he is really fond of. The film shows the conflict between the imaginary world of the boy and the society surrounding him, where everybody tries to make him live according to certain rules and dogmas.

THE SECRETS OF THE PYRAMID OF DJOSER

In the oldest stone building in the world – Egypt’s Pyramid of Djoser – the Latvian scientific expedition discovered new underground rooms and a network of galleries. This new information has forced a revaluation of previous assumptions about the role and function of pyramids.

FORTUNE’S FAVORITE

Egils Silins has been the first of Latvian singers to perform at the La Scala and the Metropolitan Opera. The singer has won many international competitions, and has been appearing at the Staatsoper Berlin, the Deutsche Oper Berlin, the opera theatres of Paris etc.Being a vagabond might be the best expression to describe the artist’s experience of life. He is able to do, as a reward of ones own hard work, a gratifying job, all over the world.

DOUBLE PORTRAIT OF A COIN

Using unpublished footage shot by amateurs on 8mm cameras, the film reveals unseen thesaurus of cultural history. Film is about the love, hopes and dreams – of our parents, the generation that lived in the Soviet Latvia when a double-moral reigned in society.

IN THE SHADE OF THE OAK TREE

Contemplation on the present situation of peasants’ life, a story of rural Latvia at the time of entering the European Union, told by six locals. These people – biological fermers, a newcomer German peasant, soy bean enthusiasts, the head of a rural parish – represent different attitudes towards life.

IS IT EASY TO BE YOUNG?

Several young fellows wind up on trial after smashing a train carriage as they are returning from the rock concert, others become examples of “punks” who view Soviet reality as “upside down”. A sixteen-year-old girl accused of stealing tries to commit suicide by jumping out a window in a police station. A young man becomes an amateur filmmaker making a Kafkaesque avant-garde film, while another youth becomes a follower of the Hare Krishnas.

BEHIND THE WIRE

Where unwritten rules are more powerful than the written word. Much can be understood from the youth’s gestures, from facial expressions and from their actions. Secretive, uncommunicative; victims yet perpetrators of crime. But, still children.

IS IT EASY TO BE… AFTER 10 YEARS

It is extremely interesting to find out how the new economic system after the fall of the Soviet regime in Latvia has changed the lives of the persons filmed 10 years ago. All these young people all of a sudden found themselves in a completely different world, which just started to explore the first moments of independence.

IS IT EASY…? AFTER 20 YEARS

Blue stands for hope.
And we’re all steeped in blue.
We’re standing in a sea of hope, that’s the unknown…
Each must find his own.
