Based on the Russian novel of the same name, this is set on the Western frontiers of the USSR, 1942. Two partisans receive an order to kill a suspected collaborator. The innocent suspect is desperate to save his honour. Left face-to-face with his enemies, deep in an ancient forest, where the line between treason and heroism disappears, the main character tries to make a moral choice under immoral circumstances.
